Wareham Forest
Wednesday July 9th 2014

We toured a variety of sites today looking for heathland birds. Starting at Hartland Moor we soon found one of our target birds when a family of woodlarks flew up from right in front of us.

After coffee at Arne RSPB Reserve we took a short walk out to the dragonfly pond at Coombe Heath where we saw small red damselfly and emperor dragonfly.

Next we gave Winfrith Heath a thorough search for hobbies. We didn't find any but we did get excellent views of a family of Dartford warblers.

After lunch on Wareham we moved on to the Sugar Hill end of Wareham Forest where we came across this beautiful, if a bit tatty, white admiral near Oak Hill.

Crossing the road onto Bere Heath we had a look at the unique patch of North American pitcherplants, Sarracenia purpurea.
